Day 101 - Liard Hot Springs Lodge, BC - GG Muncho Lake

The ever ruling overcast sky damped the early morning charging. With not much charging happening and still major climbing ahead, Summit Lake, the highest point on the Alaskan highway is to be conquered one more time. Marcelo decided to wait and charge the batteries as much as possible.

By later morning the heavy overcast slowly started to clear, the sun appeared and disappeared between gaps in the clouds. While the solar car was charging, the team enjoyed a last deep into the hot springs.

There was a constant flow of people stopping by to take a close look at the solar car and take photos while it was parked outside Liard Hot Spring Lodge.

Richard who have been working without a day off for 100 days (by choice), made time to join the team and soak up at the hot springs with Marcelo. While at the hot springs they meet two people from Whitehorse who knew about the solar car and happy to meet the crew and see the solar car.

By early afternoon, it was time for "on the road again" and the arduous, challenging and one of the most spectacular scenery took place, slowly XOF1 made its way towards Summit Lake but all the climbing took its toll we made as far as Double G by the Muncho Lake area.

Seconds after the solar car arrived a small crowd gathered by the car, taking photos, asking about the project. We met people from Alaska, Holland and locals.

...and them we were four...

Stephan resumed his bike trip around the world. We all enjoyed his stay with us, hugs, laughs, photos. He gathered his belongings, settled his gears on his bike and got back on the road. We all stood watching him disappear into the horizon. We were all sad to see him go but Taro in particularly felt the most, they developed a strong bond in a short time. Like the rest of us, he is following his dream.

May the shine shine for you, friend!

The array was set up, no charge took place. A thick cloud blocked the sun and not too long after it hide behind the majestic mountains.

While inside we all enjoyed hot coffee and talk about the project, energy, government, life dos and don'ts.

Taro following being a very traditional Japanese is extremely respectful of others (specially elders) and very polite, he was making a phone call using the public phone outside double G. Marcelo and Lew were walking to the van to pick-up something bowled to Taro who respectfully bowled back (according to the Japanese culture if an older person bowls, the younger person have bo bowl back in respect). The two kept on bowling and Taro bowling back, poor Taro trying to make his phone call. They all smiled, including Taro who knew what the dual was up to, they walked away to let Taro continue with his phone call :)

The night came fast as the days are getting shorter. The Saturday night kitchen party ended as th Double G closed at 20:00. We missed the opportunity to order some food, settle for cooking noodles inside the solar car trailer as a light rain came upon us.

At double G, it is like being at a friends kitchen. You thrown in another pot of water into the coffee maker if you happen to come across an empty coffee pot.

The kitchen conversation was about energy and the lack of government support. Huhhh, we wonder how many people share this type of conversation at kitchens all over the world.
