Day 11 - Roseau, Mn - Winnipeg, MB

Soon after departing the Stoe farm (with a great oatmeal breakfast), the team came to the Canadian border. We weren't sure what to expect, especially after the trouble in Stillwater. The border guard gave us a brief but solid inspection, then asked us unofficial but welcomed questions about the project. He also gave us some great tips for the Dempster Highway and showed us the only airstrip to cross a national boundary.

After crossing into Canada, the team stopped in Pinawa, where the car's body was built. There we met up with Vince, who played a key role in the car's manufacture and provided us with one of the best meals we've yet had.

Vince joined the team as we drove to Winnipeg, where we met up with John and Greg, two of Marcelo's friends. The newly-enlarged team stopped at the Forks, where we made it on TV once again and impressed the area diners. At the end of the day, we packed up the car and headed for Greg's. Tomorrow is going to be our first day off the road in over a week. A little wine seems to be in order!

XOF1 at Warren's garage early in the morning.
At the boarder between USA and Canada, the customs and immigration taking a close look at the team and vehicles.
No lineup at this boarder crossing!
Manitoba, here we come!
Pinawa in sight!
A long waiting moment for Marcelo who is returning 5 years later to where XOF1 composite body was built. Stop in Pinawa and visit the people who helped build the car was great, specially having the opportunity to show them the finished product. Thank you Acsion, Vince, Eric, Chris, Judith, Keith, Adam, John, Acsion, The Leader and the folks from Pinawa.
The Canadian boarder was just 5 kilometers away, the weather was great and the roads in excellent conditions just after 3 hours later we arrived in Pinawa, MB. Pinawa was a very important stop, it is where the body of XOF1 was built 5 years earlier. Vince Lopata and Chris Sanders from Acsion, Keith and Judith Olson were there to greet us on the long due arrival of XOF1.
Downtown Pinawa, a deer minding its own business. Pinawa is a magical place, you see animals all over the place, turtles, deer, beaver, ground hogs, all kinds of birds and occasionally bears.
We actually saw a bear as we were leaving Pinawa.
A close up photo of bambie.
We wonder if this beetle new it was a solar car. It may have just stopped to drink a bit of water we sprayed in the solar array.
XOF1 parked outside Vince's home. Vince is a great cook!
Thanks for lunch Vince!
Great home made ice tea :) (inside joke)
Like most houses in Pinawa, Vince has a deer fence around his garden, otherwise deers will eat everything.

Vince escorted the solar car from Pinawa to Winnipeg. John Brunetau, Greg and his kids (Catlin and Jordan) meet us just outside Winnipeg.
Graig and Marissa.
Graig is or host for the night
.
We stopped at the Forks in Winnipeg. In seconds a crowd gathered around the solar car.
Vince talking to a CBC reporter about the solar car.
Vince, Evan and Marissa taking a break watching the crowd watch the solar car.
Getting XOF1 inside its trailer.
A view of downtown Winnipeg at night.
