Day 42 - Dawson City, YT

Today was a great opportunity to visit Dawson City since the weather wasn't cooperating at all. After a warm shower and hot breakfast Marcelo, Max, and Todd returned to the Race Trac service station to retrieve the solar car and thank Greg, Bev, and Blair for their hospitality. We then made the short trip into downtown Dawson City where we set up to capture what little light was available. Unfortunately it was very overcast all day with heavy rain showers in the afternoon. It did provide the opportunity to meet with a number of curious tourists and local residents. Bev had called the Dawson news and a reporter came out for an interview with Marcelo. We also learned that several residents have been long time proponents of environmentally friendly power sources. The photographer from the paper was ironically herself interviewed by Marcelo on her experiences with solar power. Cheryl, from CBC North, also interviewed Marcelo to learn more about the project and the car. Afterwards, she filled us in on a number of other unusual attempts up the Dempster Highway and gave us some insights into Yukon living. She also let us in on a few local secrets. In the afternoon we met up with Carrie and Mo while relaxing a local coffee shop. Marcelo took the opportunity to visit the Mayor's office, the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation band office, and the medical clinic to meet with a doctor encountered earlier on the trip. The best sun light came after 10PM - only in the Yukon.

Greg, Bev and Blair Fischer were very gracious to host Xof1 for 2 days at their Race Trac service station on the outskirts of Dawson City. Although we couldn't use a gas fill-up, we certainly appreciated their air compressor..
XOF1 entering downtown Dawson City, lot's of UFO sightings :)
Visiting downtown Dawson City
A great way to see the natural beauty around Dawson is on the Klondike Spirit paddle boat up the Yukon River.
Diamond Tooth Gerties gambling parlor was the site of the previous night's failed attempt to finance the Xof1 project while enjoying the fine entertainment.
Marcelo is doing what he does best - talking about Xof1 and showing off his hi-tech sunglasses. Cheryl was a receptive audience and showed a great interest in the project.
Cheryl was tallking to a few of the tourists who were surprised to see a solar car in Dawson City.
Old meets New.
Both groups are planning on heading up the Dempster Highway when the weather improves.
Look at the luxurious room that this means of transport provides - Marcelo was jealous.
This is a hotel downtown Dawson (in case you couldn't tell by the picture)
One of the many sources of entertainment in Dawson is a theater in the same style as it was during the 1900's.
