Day 41 - Dawson City, YT

After a quick midnight tour of Dawson City and visit by a local RCMP officer we drove to the outskirts to park at the Race Trac service center for the night. Carrie and Mo were captured by the big city lights and chose to spend the night in a Dawson City hotel. The next morning the decision is made that today's objective is to fill the batteries before attempting the Dempster Highway. Max and Todd went to meet up with Carrie and Mo. On the way back the group took a side trip up Dome Mountain, a lookout that looks over the town, the Yukon River, and the former dredge sites. There is a saying that its hard to get to the Yukon and even harder to leave. We found out how true this was when Carrie and Mo decided that they would be leaving the tour and staying in Dawson. Their great photography will be missed, but I'm sure their skills will be extensively used in Dawson. The day was spent charging the cells, performing maintenance on the car, and removing the fairings from the wheels so that they wouldn't get damaged by the potholes. Max made several trips into town to the local bicycle shop to get spare tires ready for the Dempster. The car was parked overnight and the crew went for a warm room in Dawson City. Prior to calling it a night there was time to grab a bite and catch the midnight show at Diamond Tooth Gerties.

Between rain breaks we managed to get some charge into the batteries.
The remnants of dredge sites on the outskirts of Dawson City. Some of these areas have been converted into new subdivisions. Dredge #4 is still open to tourists.
The finest talent in town can be found at Diamond Tooth Gerties at 8:30, 10:30 and midnight. It was at this point where Marcelo himself almost became ensnared by the beauty of the Yukon.
