Day 38 - 48km outside of Whitehorse to Fox Lake Burn rest stop on Klondike Hwy

Todd and Marcelo left Andrew's home around 8:30 to fetch the car while Carrie and Mo happily slumbered on unawares. Thick clouds blocked out most of the sun's rays but they were able to get the car to Andrew's by around 1pm. Meanwhile Carrie and Mo savoured the first good coffee they'd drank in a long time and munched contentedly on bagels while acquainting themselves with their gracious host.
Not knowing when Marcelo and Todd would be back or if the X of 1 was heading off today- Andrew kindly drove Carrie & Mo downtown to buy some must haves: mosquito jackets and pillows. After this essential mission was completed, Andrew took the time to show us some sights before letting us loose in the city core on Main Street where we checked our email and got some other supplies.
Marcelo called around 2:30 with the news that the we would be heading up to Dawson as soon as possible- Andrew - again - went out of his way to fetch us and bring us back to him home where Nora and still wet laundry waited.
We packed up - artfully arranging damp socks and t-shirts in the back of the van as we returned to downtown Whitehorse to stock up on groceries, fuel, distilled water, fuses. Marcelo tried in vain to find a wifi connection and lamented the fact that he was unable to contact Gaby from the CBC.
Before leaving we met Richard Hartmier a professional photographer who besides taking our portrait, recommended some folks along the highway we should call upon.
With Todd at the helm, we got back into motion at around 6pm. The conditions were overcast, the wind a blowin' and the battery low. We were all surprised and pleased as patches of blue sky began to appear in the sky.
Not quite enough sun though as with the battery low, the car pulled over to a spot near a lake - the thinking being that the lake would be reflective of the sun's rays. A few minutes passed before a hail from the water was heard. A canoe smoothly paddled alongside the bank and the Briggs family disembarked with their two beautiful dogs in the lead. They spent some time with us and got a short instructional video delivered live about the solar car while Carrie and Mo exchanged belly rubs for kisses with the canines. Before seeing us off, Bernard generously offered their home as a place for us to stay on our return visit.
We reached our final stop of the day at the picturesque Fox Lake Burn rest area. After the array was set up to catch the last of the sunshine, Marcelo & Todd took the time to check out the surrounding area, Mo worked on sudoku, and Carrie slaved away typing up this succint summary of the day.
Ah yes, one last thing - it has been great having an extra pairs of hands in the support vehicle - especially ones that are attached to Todd.
