Rose to an overcast sky which soon made way for a strong sun. Lingered
to take advantage of the rays, leaving the central location of the Downtown
RV Park and our helpful, witty host Archie Tannock around 11am.
The sun is hot but there are also plenty of clouds. The surrounding mountains
are a picture- jagged peaks streaked with snow; older, rounded mountain
tops; roadside greenery with multicoloured flowers and fireweed between
the highway and the river. Marcelo theorizes the purity of the air here
must affect the solar panels positively as he has never seen the voltage
reader levels so high - at one point it even reached 10.4.
Lunch break was spent in the cool stylings of the Rancheria where a recently
signed copy of an Elvis poster gives us hope that the King IS still alive
Back on the road a little after 4pm. As has been happening all day, our
attempt to film the departure was sabotaged by curious drivers slowing
down in front of the viewfinder but just as Marcelo passes by. It is frustrating
and hilarious at the same time. We take stock and realize the interest
and excitement that the car provokes and is demonstrated by the actions
of passersby is iwhat is really happening and is just one indication of
the interest and support people have for harnessing the renewable sustainable
technology.
We stop at side of road 7:25ish- 4-7 miles short of Teslin. the charge
is strong and Marcelo plans to charge until there is no more sun and then
drive until we can't drive no more. Crew retires for a power nap.
The high pitched whir of mosquitos, itchy spots everywhere and the sun
setting wake us up just before 11:00pm. Mosquitos feast on Marcelo as we
drive in the growing darkness. With its headlights on, the X of 1 resemblance
to a UFO is even stronger than usual.
We do some night filming and take a few photos with the huge yellow moon in the backdrop. We pull into Teslin where once again a small curious crowd gathers for questions.
It is past midnght so we reset the odometre. We find a campground just
out of Teslin where thankfully the mosquitos have abated and fall into
our sleeping bags.
