Day 21 - Calgary, Ab - Edmonton, Ab
,

The heavily overcast weather that later turned into rain didn't give any opportunity to charge the batteries this morning. By the time we arrived at the Calgary Science Center it was raining, but it didn't deter the team from resuming the drive.

A CityTV crew came by for an interview and later followed us to the outskirts of Calgary. At times Kirsten (the CityTV reporter) took on the initiative to lead the way and made some really good calls on the radio communicating directions to the solar car and support vehicle. Thank you Kristen, you did a great job! Here is a link to the report http://www.citytv.com/calgary/yourcity_58999.aspx

About one hour outside Calgary the weather started to brighten up. By this time the batteries were completely empty and the XOF1 was running only on sunshine.

The drive had the team's adrenaline running high, Marcelo counting electrons and carefully maximizing the drive while Evan and Marissa on the support team were just waiting to hear the call to pull over and stop to charge the batteries. The call never happened, and 314.7km (196 miles) later the team arrived in Edmonton. The stop took place at the WEM (West Edmonton Mall) where the solar car was welcomed by the WEM staff. Special thanks to Graig and Ron (from Minneapolis), John, Stacey and Mr. Denir for all the support.

The team was treated by WEM to a nice dinner at the local Outback Steak House where we had some of the best calamari ever.

Our host Linda next to the solar car. Thank you Linda for the very welcoming and warm reception!
A photo from inside XOF1 while stationary. At least with the rain we are getting the car clean.
A few hours later at a stop to get gas for the van we noticed water dripping from the hear ferring. There was water accumulated inside. (That was a first!) We just learned about a new way to store water inside the car :)

A small hole solved the problem.
Just outside Edmonton the weather clears a bit more and we start to see the sun.
The solar car arrived at the WEM (West Edmonton Mall), the biggest Mall in the world. Within minutes there was a small crowd checking out the solar car.
CTV came by to cover the arrival of the solar car. Thanks CTV for sharing the news!
