Breakfast in the morning was toast, cereal, waffles, and fresh berries
from the Davies' garden. A brilliantly dedicated host, Linda had nothing
but coffee while making everyone had a good breakfast.
Off to the CCHRC again! We set up the array, Marcelo spoke to a crowd and
waited for the media.
10:30, the local press arrived. Marcelo answered a myriad of questions
as the batteries charged, and then we took photos. Lots and lots of photos.
Greg & Cathy Egan, from Remote Power, who already had been so organised
and supportive and enthusiastic about the project and a main reason why
the visit to Fairbanks was such a success - generously adopted 100km/miles.
Randy Pitman was kind enough to collect donations from the crowd in his
ball cap. The crowd was very generous, and provided enough money to pay
the support van's way to Anchorage.Thank's Randy
The owner of the Alaska Coffee Roasting Company (Michael - a car enthusiast
himself) caught wind of the solar car and offered the crew delicious free
coffee. Mo and Carrie went with him, and he also gave us some beautiful
steel mugs and two bags of coffee beans.
The mountanous terrain ahead will drain the batteries very quickly. We
decided to fully charge the batteries before heading out of Fairbanks.
In the words of Michael, "On the Road Again!!" At 2:05 we were
escorted out of Fairbanks by and began our leg to Achorage, a sunny sky
and a bunch of coffee.
In the van, Michael took on the initiavite to find a creative way to gather
support for the project on the road, a donation jar was made from a can
and some striped caution tape. Very professional looking.
Morgan writes: The drive to Anchorage from fairbanks, so we've been told,
is a beautiful one and I don't think we're being let down, the mountains
are incredible. Probably we won't make it the 357 mile/571 km drive to
anchorage today, but two days on this highway is fine with me.
