Oh...this weather that never seems to change. Constantly overcast with
the occasional rain colored by the the rare appearance of the sun to give
us hope of better sunny days ahead, if anything, it goes to show it can
be done under the most unfavorable circumstances.
It is pretty incredible to look back at some of the photos we took just
a few days ago crossing the Arctic Circle and the infamous Dempster Highway.
Wow!!! it was a great challenge. We all look back and have a great feeling
of accomplishment. The total tally of solar car tires eaten by the 1,500km
(~1,000 miles) of gravel road was only 7. We took with us 75 spare tires.
We finally took the car for a drive downtown Dawson City for photo op next
to "Klondike Spirit" and in front of the "triple J"
hotel.
The sequence of events in our lives brings unpredictable results:
Marcelo had invited Morgan Davison to sing next to the solar car last before
leaving Dawson two weeks previous
We met Mike and Sharon on the Klondike paddlewheeler thanks to Brad's sponsorship
at the Triple J.
Marcelo offered to give Mike and Sharon a ride to the airport to catch
their flight to Kodiak, Alaska.
Mike and Sharon invited Marcelo for some drinks at Triple J's lounge (Marcelo
had tea. "What?" - "tea?" - "yeap, tea!")
At the lounge Marcelo came across Morgan again.
Marcelo invites Morgan to join the crew.
Later, Morgan invites his friend to join too.
Marcelo goes over to meet with Morgan and his friend ,Lucian Mustain, at the hostel and ends up meeting two others (Alex Matejic- Lynden, Ontario and Michael Feith, from Holland) who express interest in the project. As a result, there are 4 extra people joining the team. Yeah!
If you build, they will come!
We made arrangements for everyone to meet at XOF1's Dawson City headquarters
(Triple J hotel) at 10:00.
We are very excited to have the new team members joining the project and
looking forward to taking on new challenges. Tomorrow we head to beautiful
Alaska where we'll be driving on another challenging gravel road the "top
of the world highway". The highway was build on a ridge.
While in Inuvik Marcelo talked about driving XOF1 again on an ice road
but this time in the longest ice road in the world. His idea raised a few
eye browns. We thought he was joking at first but he was serious about,
Marcelo said "if I find a sponsor, I'll take XOF1 on the winter road".
Well, don't be surprised if you see XOF1 back in the Arctic during the
winter. If there is someone interested in sponsoring a solar car drive
on an ice road let us know. It is bound to be the greatest challenge for
a solar car ever.
Once again we are very grateful for all the support we have received from
Brad Whitelaw who have been hosting us at the Triple J hotel. Thank you
Brad!
