Day 57 - Dawson City

It was nice to sleep in for a change, Mo and Carrie are taking it easy watching "A Team" and " family guy", Marcelo is off to the local drugstore ironically called "A Ray of Sunshine" to get some strong medication for his lingering cough.

Hey folks, for those of you getting married you should consider Dawson as a honeymoon destination. Well, at least that's what Marcelo thinks. The sense of history from the time of the great gold rush is still very much present in the authentic downtown core, the theatre shows, gambling hall, costumed parks interpreters sharing the rich stories of this place . . . the history of the Klondike Gold Rush is so interesting, the authentic buildings of the downtown core are so unique and picturesque, the general feeling of friendliness and welcome . . . Carrie thinks being on a honeymoon is definitely not a prerequisite for falling in love with Dawson City.

While walking downtown Marcelo came across Martin (road resurfacing crew). We met Martin for the first time on the Dempster Highway on the way to Inuvik then in Eagle Plains and again in Dawson. Coincidentally, we have came across Bruce and Anne Brander 3 times already as well other new friends from as far back as Edmonton and Whitehorse.

Marcelo did a quick stop at the local radio station. He is looking for two volunteers to take over for Mo and Carrie and later did an interview with Dan Davidson from the Klondike Sun.

Today we travelled back in time for 2 hours while going on a paddlewheel boat tour on the "Klondike Spirit". It was a privilege to dine on the boat, enjoy the beautiful view and learn about the history of the waters we were navigating. It was a fantastic experience. Over 100 years ago paddlewheel boats were common in these waters. It was all too romantic. Boat captains can perform weddings. So, anyone planning to tie the knots may want to consider getting married on the boat. By the way, Marcelo said that the solar car is far from a chick magnet. So, any women out there who are following these pages with interests that extend beyond the solar car may want to write him a poem or send him a note . . .

While on the paddlewheel boat we met Sharon and Mike who are flying to Anchorage from Colorado on their small airplane, making stops along the way. Mike, a retired United Airlines pilot, dreamed of visiting the Yukon since he was a child, it was nice to chat with him and see his excitement for making a childhood dream come true. Well done Mike! may the good winds be with you and Sharon on your trip.

Like us, Mike and Sharon are grounded in Dawson due to weather, coincidentally we both plan on making Tok the next stop. So our paths may be crossing again soon.

The staff here at the Triple J hotel are treating us like royalty, thank you everyone!
